Basic Information About the Tournament
This summer’s edition of CS: GO Major is the 15th one in the CS: GO Major Championship, as well as the second one of the year. It will take place in Berlin, Germany between August 20 and September 8. Held by Valve Corporation, ImbaTV, and StarLadder, this tournament will have 14 teams which qualified through the previous Major. Conversely, the other 10 teams are going to be qualified through regional qualifiers.
How Much Is the Prize Pool?
The prize pool of this edition is of $1,000,000 USD. This makes the tournament the 8th consecutive one with this amount of money. It increased back in 2016 when $250,000 were added to the pool.
The cash is going to be spread among the winning teams. That being said, the first place will get the most money, respectively $500,000. 2nd place will receive $150,000, while the 3rd and 4th places will each receive $70,000. From 5th to 8th, the teams will get $35,000.
What Is the Format?
For this tournament, there are 4 regional qualifiers: Europe, Asia, America, and CIS. Each one of them will send two teams to participate in the New Challengers stage. There will be Minors, each of eight participating teams.
Also, since Valve Corporation has changed the format a little by reducing direct invites to 14, teams that place 3rd will have another chance for the Major. Therefore, these teams will play until only two of them qualify for the Major.
